Shimano Stradic STCI44000F Reel Review

The reel is marketed as being very light and my first impression of the reel was that it is super light . I was impressed. This reel is a bit undersized for the application that I have been using it for and is sold as a fresh water reel. I was looking for a salt water reel in a slightly bigger size. I have been using it on a light weight salt water surf set up and so far it has performed well. I have caught Striped Bass up to around 16 pounds on it and the drag has performed well in those situations. It would be nice if Shimano made a 5500 size of this reel designed for salt water use.

The true test of a reel is not the first season of surf fishing, but the second, third, fourth etc.... I'm interested to see how well it performs 2 weeks after it gets dunked in salt water for the first time. The true test of the reel will come over the next few years.

So far I am happy with the quality of the reel. Pound for pound its a very powerful reel.
