The construction components are the finest in the category, from the A6061-T6 machined aluminum frame to the multi-disc Carbonite drag system capable of turning out up to 20-pounds of drag suitable for the largest divers and lead weights used. But even more important is the Okuma Tension Spool Control system, or TSC. A secondary drag system housed within the cast control, TSC turns downrigger, diving planer and heavy lead trolling into a simplified one-handed operation, eliminating the need for thumb pressure regulation when deploying your trolling spread. And finally, Okuma’s patented Mechanical Stabilizing System ties the spool shaft, pinion gear and pinion gear bearing together with a single plate for perfect alignment over the long term.

I have used the Okuma Convector series reels for years and have been very happy with them. When it was time to add a couple more setups to the arsenal, I first considered them again, but for the difference in price on Amazon between the old standbys and the Catalinas, I could't pass up the deal.

For the extra money, the Catalinas have the secondary spool drag system, a couple more bearings and full aluminum side plates. The result is a super smooth reel that you can set faster on the water. You don't have to thumb the spool when setting the line out. You can open the bail and move get the next one ready without worry about a birdsnest.

Great value at Amazon price. I'd have a hard time justifying the extra cost over the Convectors at full retail though.
