Stoeger Arms X20S Suppressor Air Rifle air rifle Review

I purchased this rifle on Amazon from Pyramid Air. Had a little confustion at first but the crew at Pyramid Air provided the type of customer service that I don't often have the pleasure of working with! They way they responded to my problem(s) ensured future business from me. In a world right now where their can be so many options, I am sticking the the people who take care of their customers!

This is a fine air rifle. Granted, I have never shot, owned or handled a high end air rifle and I am sure they may be great as well but this Stoeger for the money, quality, and accuracy is a solid choice. I read about this gun for over a month searching for bad review, searching for anything that might steer me away from it. And a bad review is hard to find. If you are researching this gun check out Archer Airguns. They have a few things to say that may help you make the decision. They test accuracy and power in both the .22 and the .177. I chose the .177 which brings a little more speed and the cost of pellets is a little cheaper. Besides, if you want more "knock down" power, all you need to do it go for a heavier pellet.

Earlier this year my sons and I got into air rifles and had a blast with a Ruger Explorer. We got them to eliminate a tree rat problem. We took 15 in about 2 months and the problem is no more. They were fun little guns but we wanted to try more accuracy and power. So we got a Gamo Big Cat for my oldest and that gun does exactly what everyone says it would do. Accurate, powerful and inexpensive but very solid. Great gun. So I was caught between sticking with Gamo, maybe the Varmint Hunter, or Socom Elite, or the Stoeger X20s. Well, I went with Stoeger and I could not be happier.

I like the look of the gun, the suppresor looks pretty cool. It is heavier than the Big Cat which I at first thought it would be a problem but the weight helps you to steady the gun better. The scope is ok, not great but the illuminated reticle is fun. We actually shot by moon light last night, with no addional light and we were hitting a white milk pint at 30 yards! Accuracy is the same if not better as the big cat but the power seems to be greater from the Stoeger. What I have found is the Crosman 7.4 grain pellets work the best with my gun so far. We have tried Crosman Hollow Points, RWS Hunting Pellets (heavier and drop a great deal more that Crosman after 15 yards)Gamo PBA. You have to get the Crosman's in the card board boxes, the store bought ones are different for some reason.

As far as sound, I don't know what other's who have reviewed this gun are expecting. If you watch a movie and think the sound of a suppressed rifle is real, then maybe you should stick to video games. Now, we have 3 guns to compare. The Ruger Exploer, The Gamo Big Cat, and the Stoeger X20s. When shooting the Gamo Big Cat, with lead the pellets stay sub-sonic (no crack sound). Same with the Stoeger. When you use PBA pellets, they crack like a .22. The Gamo is significatly louder than the Stoeger and the Stoeger's supersonic crack seems to sound off in the distance where the Gamo's supersonic crack seems like it's right there with you. We live on the edge of a wooded area into which we shoot but it's in a subdivision so I was concerned about noise. We shot both guns and tested "real world" sound levels. With lead in the Gamo, at 30 yards, you heard the discharge and the spring of the gun but faintly, you would not realize it was an air rifle. I have hit sticks with the lawn mower that were louder. With the PBA, it sounds like a .22, but at 60-70 yards away, could be heard but did not sound like a fire arm. The Stoeger....is quiet. About 1/2 as loud as the gamo with both lead and PBA. I was so suprised! The mechanics of these types of guns are what really make the majority of the noise. But the Stoeger is quite, really quite compared to the Gamo Big Cat(which I would not classify as loud) and that includes the spring action. I only shot the gun about 30 rounds and I installed a new GTX trigger and the accuracy keeps getting better. I can't wait to see how it performs after it stops dieseling. I could not be happier with this air rifle it serves my purposes! Fun for plinking, deadly and accurate for small game. Great Gun. I honestly can't believe it was so well priced. Get one!
