Pros : Quality materials, Attention to detailCons : Will Require some Break-in
Best Uses : Work, Outdoor activities
I'm a general contractor and purchased these for work. "True to size" is a subjective criteria so I will provide some comparisons -- I take a size 9 in these boots , which measure 11" on the inside and 12" on the outside. I have slender feet of normal width, which means that I often have issues finding a boot that will fit around my ankles, and yet allow some wiggle room for my toes. These fit me perfectly with the supplied insole, but I replaced them with some orange Superfeet insoles, which made them a little tighter in the toebox but still leaves some wiggle room.
For comparison, I also take a size 9 in Chippewa 6" lace up boot (20065) and Red Wing 9014 6" boot. These are roomier in the toebox than the aforementioned boots, without feeling clunky. I wear a size 42 regular width in Birkenstocks and usually a size 10 in sneakers and other types of shoes.
As for quality, these are nicer boots than the Chippewas and are on par with the Red Wings. "Plainsman" is a type of chromexcel leather produced by Horween Leather Co., which also supplies leather used to make NFL footballs and NBA basketballs, and to many well reputed shoemakers. Chromexcel leather means that the rawhide has been both chrome and vegetable tanned, imparting the beneficial qualities of both processes. The "hot stuffing" process impregnates natural oils and cosmetic grade beeswax into the leather, making the it more waterproof and durable. In short, it's a high quality boot, which is why they're probably being discontinued. You see, most people aren't willing to spend full retail on a simple 6" work boot, even if they're worth it.
No lining on the collar will allow these boots to breathe more easily during summer use.
