Like other products by Vagabond Traveler, this bag fills the role that a Saddleback Leather brand bag does, only for less money and slightly less quality and craftsmanship.

This bag is made with thick leather. It's tough, firm, and good-looking. The inside is lined with suede.It has a small interior pocket on one side, along with three pen holder loops on the other. There is a side pocket on either side of the exterior, about large enough to hold a Ti-89 sized calculator or a small water bottle. The shoulder strap comes with a second shoulder pad, which is for use when the strap is arranged so the bag can be worn as a backpack. Use this configuration when carrying heavier loads in the bag. There are many D-rings around the bag, presumably for those times when you need to strap it to the saddle on your camel as you trek through the Sahara Desert. They are handy for attaching things to the bag, such as a small sleeping bag.

I think of this bag as a diamond in the rough because it was quite unrefined and stiff when I first unboxed it. After some time of owning the bag and several treatments with Lexol, the bag became darker, more pliable and more beautiful. Don't get me wrong, it's a great bag out of the box, but I like my leather products to feel a bit more buttery to the touch, so some conditioning did the trick for me. Even if you don't care much about making the bag softer, I really recommend conditioning the straps, which were very stiff before using Lexol. I took one star off because the straps were not made of as high quality leather as the rest of the bag. This is minor, though, since for under $300 you aren't going to get a leather bag this good.
