This is a great radio. It has 5watt/1watt, power saver, 16 channels and is narrow band programmable. It has lots of other features and extra boards you can pay to have put in by a technician. I only needed the basics, but I really like what I have with this radio. I did not buy my radio from Amazon, but I bought it from a radio dealer out of MO who promised me great support, and he did give me great support. If you have a good understanding of radios and equipment, you could buy this radio and possibly not need any customer service. I had a competing dealer try to talk me out of buying this radio. He wanted me to buy the VX454 for approx. $150 more than I paid for this radio. I say, buy what you need. This radio is a milspec radio according to the brochure I read. It has a lithium battery. It has a small display screen which is really nice to tell which channel you're on without looking at the dial. It has tons of compatible accessories available to add to your radio. It charges pretty quickly. The battery lasts a long time. If you know how to program radios, this radio is a breeze with the proper software. My last radio was a VX180. I put that thing thru hell and back using it on the fire department and it came back for more. I switched fire departments, and I had to return it. The Stone Mountain speaker mic I bought to accessorize my VX180 fits right on my VX354. This radio is a couple steps up from the VX180. I am very happy with it so far. I will report back if I have any problems in the future, but I doubt I will have any. I think it is a great value for features and price.
