Shimano Stradic STCI41000F Reel Review

The reel is exceedingly smooth and well balanced in operation. Most spinning reels tend to twist in your hands when you reel in line--the 1000F doesn't. I also like the 6:1 line retrieve ratio. The weight of the reel (5.8 oz) was another critical feature for me. I've matched it to a 5'6" Abu Garcia Conolon graphite rod rated for 4-8 pound line. The rod is inexpensive but has a wonderful blank with fast action. Weight is very important to me since I recently had surgery on the shoulder of my casting arm. This outfit is very light overall but still handles large bass easily. I can cast this outfit all day long. Although the nearly $199.99 MRSP price tag is substantial, I've not been able to find a reel with all these features for less. Actually the Amazon price was $189, the best deal I know of. Thomas F.
