What Outdoor Research does with their side vents is just fabulous, letting you turn it into a poncho-like affair when it is hot and giving you lots of venting options. The jacket is well built and fits just as they describe. As a 5'10" 170-175 lb (naked) guy, the large is way too large and the medium is right, but a trim fit. The zippers are stiff, stiffer than other waterproof zippers, but I can deal with that. The hood is large and could benefit from a front/rear tightener, but it is fine because it has a wire on the front so you can adjust it to stay out of your vision. A real complaint is the sleeves, which do not tighten enough to cinch around my wrist. Because the velcro used to secure the wrist is a matching colour (and "shaped", nicely) simply sewing some more in isn't a solution (and you would breach the waterproofness there too). I did call OR and they said they would send me some of the right colour velcro, but nothing ever came. They also said they would replace the entire jacket with the new Mentor when it came out if the wrist cinches were tighter, but I'm not counting on that. Overall, I like it. The wrist issue does bother me though. Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Outdoor Research Men's Mentor Jacket (Black, XX-Large)" are high quality item.
