Eureka Tetragon 8 Person Tent Green Review
We purchased this tent quickly after a trial run with the Coleman Montana 8 Elite failed us miserably. Too many large tents lean towards a large box shape which isn't nearly as stable as a classic dome or pyramid shape. This tent has nice angles which help it against wind and rain. This is the second Eureka tent I've had and they seem to still hold up well against some other, more marketed and mass produced brands of lesser quality.Setup was pretty easy but it is fairly big so you really do need two people. I don't think I could set it up alone. Tent fabric seems durable and thicker than some other brands like Coleman so I expect it to hold up for awhile.
The design allows for it to be staked very "taught" so that water should run away smoothly which is critical. You don't want water to sit anywhere where it will wick through. The plastic stakes it comes with are ok but will probably break after awhile so you may want to invest in some other, heavy duty stakes at some point.
I would also recommend getting some bright colored ribbon or something to make the guy lines visible. Our tent was a tripping hazard in a site with lots of little kids with all the guy lines anchoring the rain fly down.
Since the rain fly comes down so far on the sides, ventilation is ok but not as good as some others probably. I would rather keep the extra rain/wind protection and sacrifice a bit on the ventilation side. Should not be an issue unless you're camping in very hot/humid climate where a more vented tent may be better.
Space inside was pretty generous. Plenty of floor space. We had plenty of room for two queen size air mattresses. We are a family of four...2 adults, 2 kids. But...there isn't too much more room after that so when they say 8 person tent, I'd say its no more than 4 as a "family tent". If your'e "roughing" it than you could surely fit more people in. Since the sides are sloped so much, there isn't a whole lot of standing room but its high enough you can stand in the middle and not hit your head...I'm almost 6 feet tall.
The divider is pretty handy I suppose but we didn't use it. Not really sure how often we will but I guess if you're 4 adults, it may be nice to have a bit of extra privacy.
So overall, very happy with it. Seems well made with taped seams and thicker nylon. I wish it came with pro grade aluminum poles which I would pay more for but thats rare these days. I expect it to hold up very well over the years and handle weather better than others probably will. My only rant would be that it doesn't have any kind of suspended net or hooks at the top for hanging things like an LED lantern. It does have some small loops but you'll have to supply your own net or hooks to latch things to.
