JM M4 SR16 KAC URX E3 IWS Zombie Killer Airsoft AEG Gun Rifle Review

Purchased this gun back in April. Within a couple of days I noticed that the selector switch would not work in safety mode. When I put pressure on the trigger, there was some resistance, but then it gave way and fired anyway. Then, a ball bearing fell out from under the side of the selector switch, and it started to turn freely. So, disappointed but realizing that stuff breaks, I contacted AirSplat and used their 45-day warranty to send it back for repair. With AirSplat, you pay all return shipping, but they do offer cut-rate UPS labels that you can purchase through them, so for my location it only cost me $11 to send the gun back for repair via UPS.

I shipped the gun via UPS to them on May 5th, and then today, May 24th, it came back from repair. The ticket said the selector switch was "reassembled" (not replaced). I took it out and tried it in the backyard -- and the selector switch still does not work in safety! You put pressure on the trigger, it holds for a second, then gives past that point and the gun fires anyway. It's almost like no one even tried the trigger out to make sure the original problem was fixed, but instead just slapped the selector switch back together and shipped it back to me.

Then, to add a new problem, the battery charger just quit working with the battery (the battery appears to have loose connection contacts in the battery plug). So now I can't charge the battery.

Anyway, right now I'm contacting AirSplat to buy another UPS shipping label for $11 to send the gun right back to them. And this time I'm refunding it and buying elsewhere (unless they can give me a solution to the problem that doesn't involve me having to continually pay shipping charges for this somewhat expensive toy that I've yet to truly enjoy).

PROS: Really cool looking gun, mostly metal, feels good in the hands, and can't complain about the firing aspect of it: fast fire rate, very accurate. It was a pleasure to use for the 600 rounds I was able to put thru it before the switch issue came up. Also, the AirSplat warranty is the longest I've seen, at 45 days. (But maybe there's a reason for that. I purchased another gun from them back in December for my son's Christmas present -- a P90 -- and I had to send that one back under warranty repair, too -- but at least that one works fine now, so perhaps this gun is just a lemon.)

CONS: Selector switch doesn't work in safety position, and appears to be an unfixable problem, at this point.

I'll update this review with the results after I hear back from AirSplat.

Update 05/25: They responded very quickly to my support e-mail. I can't return the gun since it's been past 3 days (which I didn't really want to have to do, anyway, because I really like the gun's design and love how it shoots -- I just want it to work in safety). What they are going to do for me is charge my card for a new gun, send a replacement gun along with a prepaid shipping label to send the defective one back, and once they get the defective one back they'll remove the charge. (I could have opted to send this one back in for repair, too -- they gave me two options. I figured it best to get rid of an apparent lemon and start fresh.) Best of all, they are covering all of the shipping costs. So I bumped this up to 3 stars -- we'll see how the whole process goes, and then I'll update this again.

Update 06/25: Got the replacement gun on 5/31 (Memorial Day fell in-between), and it appears to work fine so far, and the battery / charger work fine. I still have to get the hop-up set right (haven't had much time the past couple of weeks). There wasn't a return label in the box for me to send the other gun back with, but after contacting them they sent me a link to print a pre-paid shipping label. Their support has been very fast (same or next day responses), and I've been very pleased with that. Bumped up to 4 stars considering the good service in response to the problem's I've had. One side note is that the new gun has a little rusting at the end of the barrel, but nothing that a little flat black won't cover up (and it will look worse than that after some serious playing).
