Looks, fit and function are great, but there is one annoying feature that should have been noticed in the design stage. The zip-out lining does not attatch to the coat at the bottom. When putting the jacket on, the liner often gets folded up on your back, and you have to either struggle with it to get the liner in the proper position, or take the jacket off and try putting it on again.

But, because it looks so darn good, I'm still diggin' it.

1 YEAR UPDATE: Still in PERFECT condition! Like new, zipper are still good, elastic is good, everything is still water tight. It has only gotten dirty, and you can wash it just like regular clothing so that's not an issue. Couldn't be happier.

SHORT STORY: Great if you are a cyclist. 1 pocket in back and breast pocket. 100% waterPROOF. Very durable. If you just want a fully waterproof jacket, save your money and get something better that has more practical features like front pockets.

The bad first. Yes, this jacket is expensive. Do not buy this if you are not a very frequent cyclist. It does NOT have front pockets. Only a breast pocket and a back pocket. Both are very good, however, and waterproof. They are mesh inside. The jacket is absolutely 100% waterproof, and suprisingly warm, as I have worn it (while biking) in 50 degree weather by itself and that makes up for it. However, I would have preferred front pockets, and a little more insulation I suppose. Maybe a real lining.

Now for why I gave it 5 starts. It is extremely thin, high tech fabric, and is comfortable to wear on your bare skin. The hood is detachable, (It comes with the fully gore-tex red one, NOT THE GREY one in the picture up there) but I use it and slip it under my helmet for extra warmth, as the whole jacket is windproof and waterproof, including the hood. The jacket has a longer back already, but if the ground is wet, this jacket has an additional few inches to cover your rear end from road spray, and believe, me, this works very, very well. I got mine in red for $279.99 here on amazon, in size XL. It fits be perfectly. I am 6 foot 4, wide but fit build, and arms as long as Micheal Phelps'. The jacket's arms and torso length miraculously still fully, and comfortably cover my huge body.

This jacket is truly designed for cyclists and can be a great year round jacket to last you many years. It is designed specifically for the cycling position. I ride very aggressively (position very forward) and have had no problems. It has elastic on the waist, velcro on the wrists for sealing yourself off or locking down gloves, and a restraint system for tightening the hood as well, but it could be better. The hood is small enough to get under a helmet without much extra fabric. It will not go over a helmet. The shoulders are reinforced for hitting trees while mountain biking, as this is actually made for mountain biking in my opinion. The reinforcements are also slightly rubberized, making backpacks less likely to slip around on the otherwise slippery surface of the jacket. I have a chrome citizen and it doesn't slide at all, or interfere with the breast pocket. The back pocket is roomy, and easy to access while riding unless you have a backpack which comes far down your back. My Chrome Citizen doesn't interfere but that is a messenger bag which sits high on my back, so think about that.

It should also be noted that the entire jacket folds, and zips into the back pocket.

Also, for the record, this is the new model for 2013. I bike commute in NYC every day and have seen no one with this jacket except a professional bike messenger, but even he had the old model. Once again, this is 100% waterproof, windproof, and extremely durable. Great visibility and it looks good too. The red that I purchased is slightly on the flashy side for me, but its nothing to unusual and I would rather be seen on the road than in danger of not being seen, and that's the trade-off I make.

Amazing jacket. I bought it impulsively and I still have not regretted it.

Samson Evolution Series 15", AR-15 Full-length Rail System Review

I have had this rail system on my custom built Remington R-15 for close to a year now. I use the R-15 as a long range target gun and for coyote hunting. The original forend on the Remington R-15 was a solid aluminum tube that was very heavy. The tube in conjunction with the long 24 in barrel, made the weapon feel incredibly heavy. I was hoping to lighten up the front end of the rifle with this free floating rail and was NOT disappointed. The rail was able to clear my low profile gas block and lightened up the weapon by nearly a pound. I ended up having to install a regular barrel nut on my R-15 in order to install this rail. Unfortunately the forend tube that originally came with my rifle did not have a standard barrel nut. However, once I placed a standard barrel nut on the rifle (I am an armorer and have done this before) the rail installed very easily and locked in solid. I full recommend this rail to everyone who can afford it. You won't be disappointed.

I have attached a couple of photos of the rail on my rifle. Hopefully they give you an idea of the final look of it.

Minoura RDA2429D Rim Drive Trainer Carbon Review

I was really worried about buying this, I have never used a trainer and was worried I would not like it... I did research on them prior to buying them and read that the Rim Drive are better as they do not wreck your rear tire, that was my main reason to buy this one.

This gives me a great workout and I love that I can train the winter months on my bike so in the spring I will be able to take to the road with out any adjustment...

Its also really easy to add and remove the bike to this, it makes it nice and portable!

I would buy again in a heart beat!

I had bought a case of these 'instant sandbags' because our house is near a beach and wanted a little extra protection available for hurricane season. During the recent tsunami threat, we broke open the box and deployed all 50 bags. They don't stack quite the way you might expect, because the insides become more like Jello than sand and are more wobbly. One friend suggested the active contents were like what gets used in disposable diapers. They also take more than 3 minutes to fully inflate; on average, it took 10 minutes for a bag to fully plump. We pulled some bags out prematurely when we first started, and they weren't as full as later ones. Make sure you have a fresh water source and a large container nearby to soak them, because each bag needs several gallons. We used 2 garden hoses and had 2 large Tupperware storage containers, which each held 3 Stormbags and about 30 gallons of water.

Once we got the assembly line going, we were able to soak and place all 50 bags in 2-3 hours. We used them to reinforce barricades we made around outside doors with cement blocks and plywood sheets. While we never had to deal with actual flooding, for the short (18") barricades we constructed, I think the bags would have worked fairly well (if we had to deal with more than a couple of feet of flooding, nothing we could have thrown up in a couple of hours would have withstood it anyway!) I would not rely on Stormbags to be the only material in your protective walls, but use them to reinforce and supplement other structures.

Once the threat is past, realize that you will have to get rid of the used Stormbags. We waited to see if they would deflate, and after 5 days so far, show little signs of losing size. I ended up putting them in a weedy corner of our yard to smother some annoying fountain grass. The suggested way of getting rid of them is cutting them open and scattering the contents over your yard (they are supposedly biodegradable), which might or might not be okay where you live. They get very heavy in bulk, and stuffing them into your trash can for pickup will probably either annoy your trash people, or break the can.

I bought these and the Merrel Isotherm 8's this year and both are very nice, comfortable boots. However, when the temp dips below zero and you need better ankle support, these boots (Salomons)excel over the Isotherms. They are not only quite a bit warmer but they have excellent firm ankle support, outstanding traction, complete waterproofness and are light as a feather. For more tame cold conditions, the Merrell's work very well, but my Salomon's have to be used when the going gets rough in the winter. Here is my comparison:

What a great looking hiking shoe, or so I thought. The description, very promising "Light weight and leather, the X-Over is ideal for light hiking, approaches, or every day comfort and style. GORE-TEX membrane ensures year-round climate comfort. Optimized fit for Women." Solomon is renown for its comfort, quality and high price, so when these went on sale I couldn't wait to get them. It sounded like the perfect shoe.

The quality is outstanding. The suede leather, soft and supple. Slick contrast stitching. Protected by Gore-Tex, guaranteed to keep you dry. With parented Ortholite performance insoles that wick away moisture, inhibit odor and fungus, provide long lasting cushion comfort, and allow airflow to keep your feet cool. Cushioned mesh lining throughout. A padded tongue. Genorous true to size fit that allows plenty of wriggle room and thick hiking socks. Quicklace system to tie your shoes quickly and avoid dangling laces. Contragrip Cheron soles provide plenty of traction, while a firm 3D Chassis a the base of the heel counter to stabilize the heel.

And then the Achilles heel, literally. It is too high and hits right below the ankle bone. So all you notice is the rubbing on the ankle bone as you walk, even just a few steps on carpet. After a couple of minutes, I had to take them off. Thick socks help some but you can still feel it. I thought, no way I could wear these hiking.

Maybe it' supposed to be this way, to provide ankle support? Maybe my feet are defective, although I've never encountered this issue before. Maybe this wondorous hiking shoe simply needs to be redesigned for a better fit around the ankle.

A better alternative may be the Ahnu women's Montara II Hiking Shoe. It rarely goes on sale but it has the same design, is equally comfortable, but has a much better fit and a deeper curve below the ankle bone. Order half a size larger than your usual street shoe size and you'll be set for hours of happy hiking.
