It's stupendously warm and it makes me feel a little more chic than my old coat did, which I suppose is a win. I live in Wisconsin, where cold means -10 F and it keeps me quite comfortable. This knife is NOT, I repeat, NOT any more dangerous than ANY other knife out there. In fact, it is one well thought out tactical style folder that has become my EDC. The thumb studs, and the access to them, is equal on both sides of the knife. The M390 steel is superb and has held an edge very well through the few sharpenings I have had to do. The knife is well balanced and feels completely solid in use. The only downside I see is the gimping is less aggressive than I like but other than that, this thing is a complete winner. Kudos Benchmade!

Snap Kayaks USA Modular Sit on Top Kayak (Yellow, Back Piece) Review

First, I didn't purchase this kayak on Amazon. I purchased it from another site, but I did research it on Amazon and checked here for reviews prior to making the purchase. There were none, so I went ahead with the purchase. I ended up returning it so now I'm leaving a review so that others can consider my points prior to making their purchase.

I'm giving this kayak 2/5 stars. The only good things about it are: A) It is sectional and thus easier to transport inside of my car and B) It didn't sink when I used it.

But there are several things about this kayak that I didn't like, which promted me to return the item.

- The sections of the kayak are snapped together using a ratchet locking system, but the ratchet itself is secured into the kayak by only ONE tiny little screw less than 1/4" long. This does not feel safe at all. If this tiny, short screw were to become undone, the sections of the kayak would come apart. Major design flaw, IMO. Such an important component that holds the kayak together should be secured by a much larger screw.

- There are no handles to carry the kayak. Even though the kayak comes apart into sections, there are no handles. Carrying each section is very awkward for lack of a proper handle.

- Water gets into the kayak. Even when everything is assembled and snapped together and tightened, water still seeps into the kayak at the seam lines where the sections are snapped together. The water doesn't seep in continuously, but it gets high enough to where a cup holder - located on the floor of the kayak - was completely filled with water.

- The above mentioned ratchet locking system is poorly placed, so that when you paddle, you are constantly having to make sure your hands don't bump into it. This resulted in one of my hands being bloodied from the sharp edges of the metal ratchet system scraping my hands. You couldn't have placed it in a more inconvenient part of the kayak if you tried. Another design flaw.

- Below average tracking. If you stop paddling for a few seconds, this kayak immediately starts to turn in circles.

Overall I don't recommend this kayak. The concept of the sectional kayak is great. I like the idea of being able to convert it from 1 person to 2 person. I like being able to fit it into my car. However, they need to get back to the drawing board and redesign this thing. It appears to be poorly thought-out.

Dakine Quest Photo Backpack, 28-Liter, Black Review

Just got back from a month-long trip across the Atlantic with this pack -- 3 countries, 2 continents, 6 flights, and too many subway, bus, taxi, and ferry/boat rides to count. Overall, love it -- best all-in pack that I've found.

During travels I carried:
- 15.6" laptop + charger (a large brick)
- Canon 5D Mark II
- 5 lenses (35mm (mounted), 70-200mm, 50mm, 15mm, 16-35mm
- Kindle
- Tons of accessories (lens hoods, extra HDD, extra batteries, cables, international power plug adapters, magazines, etc.
- Full-size tripod
- Water bottle
- Rain coat

Pack weighed 26 lbs (12 kg) total (without water). Once I got to my destinations, I obviously only explored with camera gear and left other stuff at the hotels.

Pros:
- Fits a ton of gear -- many smaller pockets to securely store money, passports, boarding passes, etc.
- Quite comfortable to carry so much gear for long periods of time. I walked around 10 hours a day on average everyday with almost no discomfort or pain.
- Side-access to camera compartment means I can swing it around to change lenses when I'm out shooting -- this was critical for me.
- Pack stands up straight when left on the floor (unlike my Lowerpro Vertex pack which tends to topple over).
- Was rainproof enough for light drizzle without the rain cover.

Cons:
- The stiff padded part of the waist strap curves OUT for some reason. So instead of curving around the waist, it sticks out on either side (and because it's stiff, cannot reshape it). This is quite a hassle when walking in narrow areas, e.g. airplane aisles, crowded subways, and really any place with a lot of people, because the sides keep getting caught. Towards the end of the trip I ended up taking the waist strap section off completely.
- The camera compartment is a bit tight. So getting lenses in and out can be a struggle at times (especially towards the bottom of the pack).
- The shoulder straps only adjust from the bottom -- so it's hard to get the pack to stay snug against the shoulder. Wish the straps adjusted at the shoulder/neck, so I could cinch it up top and not have the pack sag. Using the chest strap helps alleviate this problem somewhat.
- The waist straps are really long and there are no loops to "store" them -- so they just dangle and flap around a l-o-n-g way.
- The included rain cover takes up the space intended for a water bottle -- so when using water bottle, I had to find another place for the cover (essentially wasting one storage area). A Lowepro-like solution would have been better, where the rain cover is attached to the pack and folds away underneath the pack.
- The rain cover was loose when the pack wasn't bulging full and fell off a few times. Ended up not using it for light rain (but pack did fine).
- Tripod is carried on the side, making the pack a bit lopsided. Carrying on the back would have been better for weight distribution.
- A few more loops overall (to attach carabiners and carry other stuff) would have been nice.

I know the cons looks like a lot, but they're mostly nits/hassles, no major functional problems. Love the pack in general. Does exactly what I needed it to do. I'd tried the Tamrac Evolution 9 before, but it was very uncomfortable to wear for even 30 minutes (the straps are horrible), so I returned it (even though the camera compartment was roomier). This Dakine pack is going to serve me quite well for a long time.

Head YouTek IG Extreme Pro Tennis Racquet-Unstrung (U20) Review

Head is on top of the game with a new release of the Innegra (IG) line of racquets, as it builds on last year's popularized Youtek technology. The new cosmetic application is definitely toned down from its solid bright yellow, eye popping cousin. Providing an enhanced soft yet solid feel, players will find the newer model to be much more than simply a new paintjob to nail home the point.

Groundstrokes:

To say the least, the frame was remarkably interesting to play with. I generally do not generate very much spin on my backhand however this racquet provided easy topspins on my backhand and all other areas of the court. The rounded shape of the head widens up the sweet spot just a tad bit for easier access to spin and pop. It gave me enough control to move into the court and finish off points, perfect for players who love to take large loopy spin oriented swings at the ball.

Volleys:

My volleys were nice and solid well within the line, but I did find that it was harder to place the ball where I needed. The racquet felt a little too lively and unstable at the net, a little difficult to control. With a less headlight weight distribution, the racquet proved to be a bit more challenging to maneuver as well, especially at critical points at the net. The low headlight weight made the frame feel almost "clunky" and hard to me to remain mobile on the court.

Serves:

I found this racquet to have too much in power when it came down to my serves. I couldn't go all out on my serves as I would with most first serves, thus I had to tone down on the power level to a more moderate swing. I could put my kicks on the ball without a problem, but when it came to my precision the racquet was a little unpredictable.

Overall:

The new matrix in the Youtek IG Extreme Pro does feel more dampened than the original Youtek Extreme Pro. I also like the Hydrosorb Tour Grip replacing the traditional leather. The classic feel on the racquet is nice but with that much power coming off that string bed, it's nice to have a higher level of cushioning for a smoother shot and less forearm discomfort. This racquet had a little too much power for me but I was able to make up for that by adding additional spin to my groundstrokes. I would recommend this racquet for any 4.0 level or higher player or if you are looking for increased spin generation on your shots.
