Martin Saber Takedown Bow, 40-Pound, Black Review

I am fairly new to archery, but I still want to share my experience with this bow. First of all, this bow feels fantastic! The draw is smooth, and there is very little vibration after a shot is made. And once you install a good arrow rest, it is quite accurate.

Now for the bad: the instructions are quite vague, and in fact, there is only a rough parts diagram that is difficult to read to guide you on the bows assembly. It isn't hard to figure out, but nonetheless, I have another bow in this price range and it had clear, easy to understand instructions. The bow stringer that came with this bow seems rather cheap, at least in the sense of it's function. I discarded it and used my bow stringer that I already owned. And finally, the reason I only gave this wonderful bow only 3 stars...is the components and the company itself. The flimsy arrow rest included with the bow literally broke in half as I tried to thread it into the riser. I had to get an EZ-out to remove the broken piece in the riser. After looking closely, the threaded holes had paint in them, so I had to take a tap and chase the threads again to allow installation of a arrow rest.

Although the bows other parts do fit good, I feel they could fit better. This bow is made in the USA, and I don't think the quality of the components are quite up to snuff of what I would expect from an American made product such as this. After the included arrow rest had broke, I tried e-mailing Martin to explain to them what had happened, but their customer support e-mail is conveniently down. I tried calling several times, no one answered. I did leave my contact information on their answering machine, but no one has replied to me since then. When I tried speaking to the operator, she hastily sent me to the customer service department, where I again was greeted with the answering machine.

It's hard to say if I can recommend this bow to someone. It really does feel and shoot great, but I don't think you should have to fix problems on a $200 bow right out of the box. If you do decide to purchase this bow, make sure you already have a good bow stringer and arrow rest ready, and you may have to re-tap the threaded holes in the riser. Once you have it set up however, I think you'll be pleased with it. Oh, and don't expect support from Martin, it seems to be non-existent.

Callaway X Series Junior Set (Right Hand, Girl's Age 9-12) Review

I’ve purchased cheap junior golf sets in the past but now that my kids have gotten a little older (9 and 11) they are beginning to take private lessons and I decided it was time to upgrade the quality of their clubs. I have been very happy with the Callaway Junior club set; here are a few reasons why:

1. Cheap junior sets are heavy and unforgiving lumps of metal. These are built like the adult sets: titanium driver, perimeter weighted irons, modern hybrid, a muscle back wedge, a good putter and a very good bag. These clubs are much more forgiving than the cheap sets and easier for kids to learn with.

2. I don’t believe in this case you are paying extra for the brand name; The entire set costs less than one adult club of similar quality. I suspect this is a way to introduce Callaway to future golfers.

3. There is a good market on eBay for Callaway junior clubs, when your kids grow out of these you can sell them. Cheap sets go in the garbage can.

Sizing: They are a bit long for my 9 year old boy (he has to choke up a little) and perfect for my 11 year old girl. I believe they will use them through 12 years of age.

The suit itself seemed okay at first but when I tried to put my head through the hood, I realized that it was painfully tight. It felt like a size XL suit with a childs size hood. I wanted to loosen the string around the face opening, but it was not long enough. For a while I considered just cutting the string out and threading a longer one in, but the string is sewn into the hem so that won't work. You could just cut the string out and forget it but I surf in cold water and I want all the help I can get in preventing cold water flushing through. I finally decided to send it back and get something that would fit me better. It seemed pretty lame that the string couldn't be 3 inches longer around the hood.
